Higher Culcheth ?

Postby DragonMaster » Sun Mar 30, 2014 1:37 am

There has been a bit of chatter on social network sites regarding individuals in one newish part of the village who now write their address as 'Higher Culcheth'.

I live only a few hundred yards from the Green, can I now start giving my address as 'Culcheth Central' ?

"Higher Culcheth" may be a reference to the size of their mortgages. :D
If it ain't broke don't try and fix it.

Warrington Road is the criterion, the haves are to the north and west and the have nots are not. Allegedly

The higher relates to their noses stuck in the air.

As a resident in the so called 'higher culcheth' area I have to smile at the mortgage comment, but looking around at some of my near neighbours I'm not sure that they have spelt higher correctly, they got the 'e' but missed out the 'b'; 'l'; 'p' & 's' out! I think they have mixed up location with background!
What is, has been and will be again! BSG

Is this all some form of joke and nobody has told these newcomers that April 1st is not until Tuesday?
Of course if they live in Twiss Green they are almost correct except that it should be "highest "rather than "higher".

Janet, there is no "Higher Culcheth" it was all a bit of tongue-in-cheek banter. Like you said Twiss Green is the highest point in the village but there is no such address as higher Culcheth. [-X :D

Kenyon has always been the address to have if you feel the need to be a cut above the rest

I am pleased that it is just a bit of banter,Local Lass.
I got the impression , obviously wrongly ,that some people felt superior because they mistakenly felt that where they lived was somehow better than some other parts of the village and therefore added " Higher" to their address to show(in their minds) their status.
However they would have probably called it "Upper Culcheth "had that been the case.

Folks
It was a huge long thread full of banter. There was nothing serious in it. Someone said that one person had written Higher Culcheth on their address and it all went on from there. Much of it was alcohol related and extremely funny. I think there were about 500 comments in the end but the vast majority were very good humoured. :-)
