C.A.M Report 4th Oct 2006

Written by Ileyne Hutchinson

In attendance there were two police officers, one PCSO, three Parish Councillors and Chris Kirkpatrick from the Cheshire Police Authority, along with a dozen members of the public, of whom one was from Culcheth and the rest from Glazebury.
At the last meeting, the main concerns as voted by the public were speeding, followed by nuisance youths, then parking. The concerns were the same this time, with parking and nuisance youths coming joint second.

Since the last meeting in July, these are the figures:

SPEEDING: 16 motorists caught. Also one by the mobile speed trailer and two by the Automatic Number Plate Recognition van.
Steve Dodd, the PCSO, reported that speeding in Croft is now less of a problem since they bought a camera for the Community Speedwatch scheme. This has been working well for two years. In Culcheth, there are not enough volunteers to start this. The Parish Council would pay for the gun, and the volunteers, who need to give up only an hour a week of their time, are trained by the police.

NUISANCE YOUTHS: 39 calls, one third from Mee Brow, where there has been trouble at the back of Bevan Ave. There has also been trouble at the Linear Park, as regulars to this forum will know.
As a result of these calls, letters have been sent to parents, and four Acceptable Behaviour Contracts have been entered into.

There has also been one Section 59, a complaint about mini motorbikes. The Off Road Bike Unit is having much success in this area.
Parking: Fixed penalty notices have been issued, and also advisory notes.

Pubwatch ands Offwatch (offlicences) have merged. As a result of this, anyone who is banned from the local pubs will also be banned from all the offlicences in the area.

HOMEWATCH: In Glazebury, only Sandfield Cres has a Homewatch Scheme. Anyone interested in forming one should contact Steve Dodd at Risley.
School visits have been made to the local Primary schools, and also to Culcheth High as part of their Citizenship studies.

Keith Bland gave a report on behalf the of the Borough and Parish Councils.
He said that because of the difficulty in recruiting members for the Community Speedwatch scheme, the Parish would be willing to pay for a mobile speed trailer, which can be moved to anywhere in the area, and warns motorists of the speed they are doing.
The Parish Council is also going to pay for another PCSO, at a cost of £11,500. The Government will make up the rest of the cost. All this will be at no increase on the rates.
